The Petit-Sault Blockhouse is a reconstructed military site originally built in 1841 during the bloodless Aroostook War between the United States and Great Britain. As part of a defensive line that extended to Quebec, the fort played a strategic role in a conflict centered on the boundary between Canada and the United States. The original structure was destroyed by lightning in 1855 and faithfully rebuilt in 2000 according to its original specifications.
Perched atop a promontory, the blockhouse offers visitors stunning views of the city and the confluence of the Saint John River and the Madawaska River.
