The Museum of Ontario Archaeology is dedicated to connecting people to the stories of the human experience through time and place. It is our mission to share, interpret, and care for the archaeological record to advance an understanding of Ontario’s Heritage. Located next to the museum, is the Lawson Site. The Lawson Site encompasses what had been a large, thriving Indigenous community inhabited 500 years ago for two to three decades. This was the first archaeological site in Ontario to be listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Fun Facts

The Lawson Site was one of the first archaeological sites to be provincially designated under the Archaeological and Historic Sites Protection Act, and the first archaeological site in Ontario to be placed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places in 2004.
