Founded in April 1984, Montreal’s Fuges was originally launched as an entertainment and nightlife guide, but quickly evolved as a source for community organizing and activism. During the height of the AIDS epidemic it published critical information on testing and safe sex from medical professionals. They were also on the front lines of pivotal queer rights moments, including police raids and ACT UP demonstrations. They documented major legal victories like same-sex marriage and adoption rights. Commemorating over 40 years of publication, Fuges still publishes both print and digital editions, reaching over 150 000 readers monthly.
