‘Old Montreal – A Celebration of History 1642-2021’, Old Port, Montreal

A celebration of history, the founding of the City of Montreal in 1642 originally Ville Marie.  In 1535, a French Navigator founded the French Settlement inhabited by aboriginal peoples.

The City is a celebration of the French Acadian and English Loyalists Culture.  Many buildings dispersed through the City reflect their Culture. Many legislative problems occurred between the Cultures prior to Conferderation of Canada in 1867.  The Province of Quebec was known as New France 1562-1598, after the French Wars of Religion.

The ‘Treaty of Peace’ in 1701 was signed between the Governor of New France, Louis Hector de Callière and 39 aboriginal nations.  The historique plaque can be viewed at Place d’Armes Square.

The City is a celebration of Cultural and Industrial History; the ‘Lachine Canal’ Lock System and the CP- Canadian Pacific and CN – Canadian National Rail History are linked to the City of Montreal.

The ‘McCord Museum’ located in front of McGill University documents the history of our nation.
