Going Deep into Southern Ontario

My VisitList brings me back to the southern most region in Ontario, and to my earliest summer memories visiting family in and around Windsor.  My father’s family still operates the farm in River Canard – as it has since 1762 – but unfortunately the hotel owned by my mother’s family is long gone from Stony Point.  Still, there are so many reasons to plan a road trip through this part of Ontario. Historic places here tell the many-layered history of the region and the perseverance, bravery and innovation of those that have lived there. They tell the story of the francophone settlers that arrived in the area in the 18^th Century, of the Underground Railway and the rich contribution of the Black community to the region, and of the world’s first oil wells.
